Stephen A. Smith Makes ‘Law & Order’ Debut as Sports Agent

Stephen A. Smith, the outspoken ESPN personality, made his primetime acting debut on NBC’s “Law & Order” on Thursday, May 8. In the episode titled “Tough Love,” Smith portrayed Ted Hunter, a brash sports agent who becomes the victim in a murder investigation. The role marked a significant step in Smith’s acting journey, transitioning from daytime television to a primetime drama.

“I was honored to be part of a show I’ve watched for years,” Smith said. “I’ve always admired Sam Waterston and the entire cast.”

Smith’s portrayal of a sports agent wasn’t a stretch. With decades in sports journalism, he drew upon his extensive experience interacting with real agents. “I’ve dealt with sports agents my entire career,” he noted. “I wanted to bring authenticity to the role.”

Despite his enthusiasm, Smith acknowledged the challenges of acting. “Acting is a different beast,” he admitted. “It requires a different kind of discipline and preparation.”

While Smith is exploring acting opportunities, he remains committed to his role at ESPN. “I’m not leaving my day job,” he emphasized. “But I’m open to roles that fit into my schedule.”

Smith’s acting debut on “Law & Order” showcases his versatility and willingness to step outside his comfort zone. As he continues to balance his sports commentary with acting, fans can expect to see more of his dynamic presence on both screens.
