A biopic on comedian, actor, and TV presenter Steve Harvey is officially in development. Titled Seventy-Two, the film will explore a crucial 72-hour period in Harvey’s career leading up to a performance at the iconic Apollo Theatre in 1993. This event marked a turning point for Harvey, who faced significant personal and professional challenges at the time. The movie aims to provide an intimate look at Harvey’s journey, highlighting his perseverance during a pivotal moment.
“Seventy-Two” to Capture a Defining Moment in Harvey’s Career
The project is being developed by Objectively Good Media (OGM) in collaboration with East 112, a company led by Harvey and Thabiti Stephens, the Chief Strategy Officer of Steve Harvey Global. Producers Mohamed Kheir and Matthew R. Cooper of OGM are at the helm, with a writer yet to be attached.
The narrative of Seventy-Two centers around a time when Harvey, at 36, was grappling with self-doubt and personal struggles. Despite having left a secure sales job at 26 to pursue comedy, he faced numerous obstacles along the way. However, his performance at the Apollo Theatre in 1993 proved to be a career-defining moment that altered his trajectory.
A Transformative Moment
“I’ve been reluctant to make a movie about my life for years,” Harvey stated, “until I read the pitch for Seventy-Two. It focuses on one of the most difficult moments in my journey and career and shows the world that hope is never truly lost. Wait until you see what we do with this.”
OGM’s Mohamed Kheir expressed his excitement about the project, noting the significance of Harvey’s story. “Securing the rights to tell this story has been an incredible honor,” Kheir said. “Steve Harvey’s ability to turn his trials into triumphs is inspiring, and Seventy-Two will showcase the resilience and determination that defined those pivotal days. We look forward to sharing this powerful narrative with audiences worldwide.”
