More than a year after being forced to step down from his film conglomerate due to rape and sexual harassment allegations, it’s reported Harvey Weinstein has reached a $44 million settlement with his accusers.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the $44 million settlement will be split between Weinstein’s accusers and legal team. Approximately $30 million will go to the disgraced movie mogul’s victims while the remaining $14 million will pay for his legal fees.
Journal reporter Corrine Ramey told NPR, "That $44 million is not coming from Harvey Weinstein himself, it's actually coming from insurance policies.”
For those who don’t know, Weinstein filed for bankruptcy in March of last year, which means the multi-million dollar agreement “must be approved by advisers who now control Weinstein Co. in bankruptcy proceedings,” reports NPR.
Though Weinstein is settling with his accusers in civil court, he still face criminal charges. His trial is expected to start in September of this year.
