Tiffany Haddish’s name has rung through Hollywood for years, but she started making headlines after she appeared on Jerrod Carmichael’s NBC sitcom, The Carmichael Show, in 2015. Then, Tiff hit the big screen alongside Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, and Regina Hall in Girl’s Trip, and her name hasn’t stopped buzzing since. Now, she’s sitting down with Glamour spill the beans about her whole life.

“I was low on the totem pole. Now I’m number, like, three on the call sheet. It’s a whole other ballpark.” 👑 On the cover of our September issue, Hollywood's most unfiltered star, @TiffanyHaddish, has words for everyone—including those who-bit-Beyoncé conspiracy theorists. Haddish has never been one to keep quiet about her chaotic life, but it wasn’t until now that she chose to open up about her encounter with sexual abuse at the age of 17.
The now 38-year-old actress told Glamour’s Niela Orr she had to learn to defend herself the hard way after she was raped by a police cadet.
“That whole experience put me in such a messed-up place for a long time, and I ended up going to counseling.”
Haddish ultimately reported the incident, but she never had a clear image of what justice should look like for her.
She continued, saying, “Me just yelling out people’s names with no thought behind it is pointless. I need a plan,” she says. “I could be a voice, but what’s a voice going to do—just keep talking? Or is there action behind it?”
She went on to talk about why she gets “semi-aggressive” in certain situations while also explaining why there are always stories about her hitting on someone in Hollywood.
“I notice that men are afraid of women that are aggressive. So to protect myself I become semi-aggressive…You hear about, ‘Tiffany always hitting on somebody,’ but that’s to keep them from hitting on me.”
