SZA’s SOS album has made a historic return to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, powered by its deluxe reissue titled SOS Deluxe: LANA. The reissue, released on December 20, added 15 new tracks to the original 23-song album, resulting in a surge of activity that catapulted the album from No. 15 to No. 1 on the January 4-dated chart.
This marks the album’s 11th week at the summit, a feat achieved 22 months after its last stint at No. 1 in March 2023. The gap is the longest for any album since the Billboard 200 began publishing weekly in 1956. SZA responded to the achievement on social media, writing, “The fact that y’all have me at number one for a third day with no playlisting, no promo, no radio, on a deluxe… This is why I try my best because y’all always got me no matter what. Thank you.”
Historic Numbers and Deluxe Success for SZA
The SOS Deluxe: LANA reissue earned 178,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending December 26, a 297% increase from the previous week. Notably, the 15 new tracks alone generated 105,000 units through streaming and track sales, a figure that would have secured a No. 1 debut had the songs been released as a standalone project.
The reissue also includes a single feature — Kendrick Lamar on the track “30 for 30” — along with production contributions from ThankGod4Cody, Carter Lang, Benny Blanco, and Lil Yachty. Fans were treated to a variety of new sounds, showcasing SZA’s range while maintaining the soulful essence that made the original album a hit.
Originally released in December 2022, SOS debuted at No. 1 and spent 10 nonconsecutive weeks at the top before its 22-month hiatus. Throughout its 107 weeks on the Billboard 200, the album has remained in the Top 20, cementing its place as a fan favorite. It ended 2024 as the No. 6 album of the year, following its No. 3 position in 2023.
