Tamar Braxton firmly dismissed recent rumors alleging she had an affair with rapper and music executive Birdman, who is married to her older sister, Toni Braxton. The R&B singer and television personality addressed the speculation during a Wednesday appearance on the talk show Sherri.
“Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous,” Braxton said on the show, her voice resolute. She called the allegation “completely false” and said she wanted to set the record straight in a public forum.
Rejecting Allegations and Clarifying History
Braxton, 48, explained that her relationship with Birdman — born Bryan Williams — is rooted in a long-standing friendship that predates his romance with Toni Braxton, now 58. “The truth is I introduced Toni to her husband,” she said. “Bryan and I were friends first, like, real platonic friends.”
She recounted the early days of her music career, noting that Birdman and his brother Slim once showed interest in signing her to Cash Money Records. “He was actually dating one of my friends a long time ago,” she said. “When they broke up, Brian and I became really good friends.”
According to Braxton, it was during that period that Birdman began to speak about her sister Toni, who was then going through a divorce. “So when Toni got a divorce, he was serious about her and, you know, made his way in,” she said.
Tamar Braxton went on to express frustration with the rumor’s impact on her family. “That’s my brother. Now, he’s my brother-in-law,” she said, reflecting on how the speculation felt personally hurtful.
She also addressed how the rumor surfaced publicly. The topic came up after a recent episode of the reality series The Braxtons, in which Tamar’s sister Towanda mentioned an alleged involvement with one of Toni’s former partners. Some fans assumed the reference pointed to Birdman, sparking widespread online chatter.
Braxton said that seeing the narrative twist into something “upsetting” was difficult, especially given her desire to protect family relationships. “I think we’re in a healthy space,” she added. “I think that everyone has taken accountability for their part in what happened, publicly and privately.”
Toni Braxton and Birdman’s relationship has been in the public eye for years. The couple first began dating in 2016 after long friendship and were married in 2024 — only to have Toni briefly file for divorce weeks later in 2025, a filing she dismissed months after.
Despite ongoing public interest in the family dynamics, Tamar’s comments on Sherri mark her most direct rebuttal of the cheating allegation. She insisted that her close friendship with Birdman has always been strictly non-romantic, rooted in mutual respect and shared history.
