Reality television star Tami Roman is pushing back after facing public criticism for comments about her daughter’s girlfriend. Roman, best known for her role on VH1’s Basketball Wives, appeared on a recent episode of Kandi Burruss’ YouTube show. There she openly discussed her reaction to her daughter Jazz Anderson’s same-sex relationship.

The conversation took a serious turn when Jazz, 29, revealed that her mother has “refused” to meet her partner. “She doesn’t want to meet the women I bring around,” Jazz said during the taping. “The person I’m with now has a positive impact on my life … I wish my mom could see that.”

Roman confirmed those remarks, admitting that she would not allow the girlfriend to attend Jazz’s upcoming graduation. “She can’t be in attendance,” Roman said flatly, according to video posted online.

Roman Explains Her Perspective

Roman said her stance stems from discomfort and confusion about her daughter’s romantic choices. “There’s something called confirmation bias,” she explained. “My daughter is heterosexual, so it’s easier for me to understand that. I need time to figure out how this works for me … I still love her.”

Her explanation has drawn swift reaction from commentators on social media. Many feel Roman’s reasoning conflicts with accepting her daughter’s relationship. Still, Roman doubled down on her view about timing for meeting the girlfriend. “I’ll meet her only after they’ve been together at least two years,” she said.

Burruss challenged Roman’s refusal, reminding her that graduation is about Jazz’s achievement, not Roman’s feelings. “Okay, but you’re not graduating — she is,” Burruss said, pushing back on the earlier comments.

Jazz’s revelation has touched a nerve with fans who believe family support should be unconditional. Those critics argue that Roman’s decision to decline meeting her daughter’s partner sends a message of exclusion, particularly at a milestone event. Roman, however, insists she is protecting her own mental health while navigating uncharted territory in her family life.

The episode has sparked broader discussion about acceptance and parental boundaries in the LGBTQ+ community. Some supporters say Roman’s candid admission may open doors to deeper dialogue within her family. Others hope Roman will reconsider ahead of upcoming celebrations.
