Taye Diggs and Tamar Braxton are the lead cast in Footage Films’ thriller “Stepfather.”
The thriller is being helmed by director Chris Stokes, who co-wrote the film with Marques Houston, per Variety. Both serve as executive producers on the project.
“Stepfather,” which takes inspiration from the 1987 cult classic, is scheduled to premiere on Tubi in 2026.
Diggs plays Darnell, a survivor of childhood abuse whose unresolved trauma turns into a twisted quest to recreate the perfect household he was once denied. When Asia, played by Braxton, and her daughters don’t meet his expectations, Darnell takes charge by eliminating them to start the search again for his ideal family.
The synopsis for the film is below:
“After years of eradicating any family that falls short of perfection, Darnell believes his new wife Asia and her daughters might finally be the real deal. That is, until tensions rise and they uncover his deadly pattern. Now, getting rid of them won’t be as easy as he planned.”
Production is already underway in Los Angeles.
Newark native, Taye Diggs is also the star of Lifetime’s new rom-com ‘His, Hers & Ours.’ He recently wrapped up a Broadway gig Moulin Rouge! as Duke of Monroth in September. Earlier this year, Diggs gave his ex-wife, Idina Menzel, ample credit in co-parenting their 15-year-old son Walker Diggs.
Tamar Braxton recently poured her heart into a new EP Heartbreak Renegade. In August, she dropped a teaser, a cinematic clip, featuring Love & Hip Hop star Mendeecees Harris as her love interest. It also included clips of Braxton speaking to ex-husband Vince Hebert, her mother Evelyn Braxton, and her friends about love, relationships, and offering advice.
