Actor Terrence Howard revealed an unconventional method for teaching his son, Hunter, how to drive. Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show on September 24, Howard explained that he enlisted a professional stuntman to prepare his son for the road.

The actor, best known for his roles in Iron Man and Empire, shared that Jay Lynch, a stunt driver he had worked with in several films, including Idlewild, was the perfect person to instruct Hunter. Howard praised Lynch’s skills, calling him “an incredible stunt driver.”

Stunt Training for Safety

Howard explained that Lynch worked with Hunter weekly, teaching him both stunt and defensive driving techniques. “He took my son out and would spend two hours a week showing him how to do stunt driving, showing him how to do defensive driving,” Howard said during the interview. “That has made him a very safe driver.”

The actor believes this training gave Hunter the confidence to handle any situation on the road, saying, “Even if he wants to pull a stunt, he knows how to do it. So, I think it works.”

Howard emphasized the importance of safe driving, reflecting on his own dangerous experiences as a young driver. He shared that, as a teenager, he often drove recklessly. “I remember being 17, driving at 120 miles an hour, and trying to do turns and things of that nature,” Howard admitted, adding that he could have killed himself.

Howard Believes in the Testosterone Factor

Howard also shared his theory on why young men, like himself, are drawn to dangerous driving behaviors. He linked it to testosterone levels, which he says encourage risk-taking behavior. “A healthy young man produces testosterone. That puts you in a position where you’re going to challenge yourself,” he explained.

Terrence Howard is the proud father of five children, including Hunter, who benefited from his father’s thoughtful approach to learning how to drive safely.
