Teyana Taylor Filed For Divorce From Iman Shumpert Citing Emotional And Mental Abuse

Back in September, Teyana Taylor announced on social media that she and her husband, Iman Shumpert, of seven years were separated. However, according to TMZ, the singer actually filed for divorce from Shumpert back in January, months before she announced their separation.

In her lengthy explanation, Taylor, 32, explained that many different factors played a part in her and Shumpert’s, 33, separation. Now, it appears as if one of those factors included Shumperts “narcissistic” ways toward her.

The K.T.S.E singer accused the father of her two children of “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.” She also reportedly fought to keep their familial dynamic in tact, despite Shumpert “being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her.” The A Thousand And One star now considers their marriage to be “irretrievably broken.”

Taylor pointed out that Shumpert signed a $40 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2015. However, his hefty cash didn’t seem to be enough for the famous athlete, who was supposedly envious of Taylor’s success as an actress and singer.

In the court documents, Taylor noted that she “began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage” as Shumpert, grew increasingly angered about her stardom. She claimed to have turned down acting roles and recording opportunities because he “did not want her to work,” but then complained when she stopped working after giving birth.

Taylor first filed for divorce in 2022, but withdrew the filing after one day. By January 2023, Taylor would file for a third time, suggesting that she was “unable to handle the emotional rollercoaster.”

The two met in 2011, were together for 10 years, married for seven. The soon-to-be exes share two daughters, 6-year-old Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr., aka “Junie,” and 3-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert.

Teyana Taylor has since released a statement regarding the leaked documents. “I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or bligs etc. So everyone claiming ‘Teyana said’ didn’t get any statements directly from ME.” She continued, “these statements were taken from private court documents that were leaked to the public.”

Taylor concluded her statement asking for privacy for herself and her daughters.
