Teyana Taylor has revealed she must undergo urgent vocal chord surgery after doctors discovered a benign growth affecting her voice. The singer disclosed the news on August 6 via Instagram Stories, explaining, “I’ve been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now. And after a lot of back and forth with my doctors, I’ve been told I need vocal surgery immediately”
She added that the growth, though noncancerous, has brought on “real discomfort” and forced her to pause upcoming appearances. “Thankfully, we caught it & it’s treatable—but it does mean I need to pause and give myself time to fully heal,” Taylor said.
Staying the Course: Album and Film Still on Track
Despite the unexpected interruption, Teyana reassured fans that her creative projects remain untouched. Her fourth studio album and accompanying short film, Escape Room, will still debut as scheduled on August 22.
“It’s the most personal body of work I’ve ever created,” she shared. The timing, she noted, feels uncanny—“Just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected ‘escape room’—one I didn’t ask for, but one I now have to find my way out of with patience, rest and faith.”
Heartbreak Over Postponed Appearances
Taylor was particularly disappointed to cancel high-profile media engagements, including an appearance on Michelle Obama’s “IMO” podcast. “That honestly breaks my heart,” she admitted. “I poured so much of myself into this next chapter—especially Escape Room… So no worries there, the album is still dropping August 22.”
Embracing the Recovery Journey
Reflecting on her current challenge, Taylor acknowledged the pain of sidelining—but also leaned into her resolve. “This moment hurts,” she said. Then came a touching pledge: “When I return, it’ll be with even more fire, more purpose and the best version of me”
In closing, she expressed gratitude for the support she’s received: “Thank you… for the grace, the love, and the space to heal. I can’t wait to be on the other side of this—stronger, softer, and singing again”
