Teyana Taylor revealed that motherhood has transformed her perspective on life.
During an interview for InStyle’s latest cover story, Taylor shared that becoming a mother has been a game-changer for her.
“My grind is different, my hustle is different. Like, I’m not playing with y’all, my tolerance is different, what I’m willing to take and not willing to take — you get what I’m saying?” Taylor said. “Motherhood is what made me start to pour more into the other things that I love to do and also to help other people.”
She also shared that her youngest child is learning the love of language.
“My youngest is talking too much,” Taylor joked. “I can’t believe she’s a talking two. She is a talking two, for sure!”
Teyana Taylor has two daughters with ex-husband Iman Shumpert: Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and Rue Rose Shumpert. Junie is the elder daughter, born in 2015, and Rue is the younger, born in 2020.
Along with her changing priorities, Taylor recently admitted that she has to undergo surgery for damage done to her vocal cords.
“I’ve been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now. And after a lot of back and forth with my doctors, I’ve been told I need vocal surgery immediately,” she wrote. “They found a noncancerous growth on one of my cords that’s been messing with my voice and causing real discomfort. Thankfully, we caught it & it’s treatable — but it does mean I need to pause and give myself time to fully heal.”
“This moment hurts. I wanted to give you everything, the full vision. But please know I put my whole heart into this music, this film, this rollout,” she added. “And when I return, it’ll be with even more fire, more purpose, and the best version of me.
“Thank you for rocking with me through it all,” she ended her post. “For the grace, the love, and the space to heal. I can’t wait to be on the other side of this — stronger, softer, and singing again.”
