Teyana Taylor is proving her doubters wrong.

During an interview with Time for the magazine’s Women of the Year profiles, Taylor shared how many thought that she could not transition from music to acting.

“Everybody told me it was dumb,” Taylor told Time. “And I was like, ‘No, I am going to be a great actress. One day, I am going to be a great director.’ ”

As an actress, Taylor has appeared in Stomp the Yard: Homecoming, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, Coming 2 America, A Thousand and One, and White Men Can’t Jump. Her most notable role was her Golden Globe-winning performance in  One Battle After Another. She also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, her first nod.

TAYLOR’S OSCAR NOMINATION

Taylor counts her Oscar nomination as a major win even if she doesn’t take the trophy home.

“Even if I go home empty-handed, I have won,” Taylor said.

“We’re young, we’re blessed, we’re being celebrated. This is the time to be happy and to have fun with it,” Taylor continued. “Especially in a space that some people take so serious, and some people are cold, some people are robotic.”

TAYLOR IS GOING FOR EGOT STATUS

Taylor also spoke about her dream of wanting the EGOT, which is when a performer wins an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.

“I would love the EGOT,” she said. “And if I don’t get that Tony, guess what that T is

“When you have a creative that does it all, let them spread their wings. Never cage a creative,” she went on.

Taylor received her first Grammy nomination this year for Best R&B Album for Escape Room.

Back in December, Taylor spoke about what led her to return to music.

I think what lured me back was just me coming back on my terms,” Taylor told PEOPLE. “All I ever wanted was to feel appreciated, and I wanted to feel utilized. I didn’t want to be stuck or put into one box.”
