The plans for the late The Notorious B.I.G’s 50th birthday have been revealed.
According to reports, New York City has plans to light up the Empire State Building in red and white and a crown spinning next to a mast in honor of the rapper’s multi-platinum debut album Ready To Die.
In Brooklyn, Biggie’s hometown, the Barclays Center is also set to celebrate his birthday with a huge broadcast just above the arena’s entrance which will include some of Biggie’s most prolific records.
The celebrations don’t stop there. Only a few stops away from where he grew up, MTA plans to hand out the special edition Metrocards only for the three subway stops near his home; Lafayette Avenue, Clinton-Washington Avenue, and Atlantic Avenue on May 21st.
A ceremony will be held the day before, on May 20th, at the Empire State Building where they will collaborate with Bad Boy, Atlantic, and Rhino Records to honor the fallen rapper. His children, his mother Voletta Wallace, Lil Kim, and Lil Cease are set to make an appearance at the ceremony, along with other celebrities set to attend.
B.I.G’s birthday celebration will continue in June at Lincoln Center when they host an orchestral tribute to Biggie on June 10th.
