The Oscars are making sure that they are covering all of their bases for this year’s show.
CEO Bill Kramer has shared that he will be implementing a crisis team in the event something unexpected happens.
Last year, Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock after he joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head.
“Absolutely… We have a whole crisis team, something we’ve neer had before, and many plans in place,” Kramer said. “We’ve run many scenarios. So it is our hope that we will be prepared for anything that we may not anticipate right now but that we’re planning for just in case it does happen.”
This will be the first time in the show’s history that this team will be in place. We reported that after the infamous slap, Smith was banned from attending the awards ceremony for the next 10 years.
Smith has since apologized to his friends, colleagues, and to Chris Rock and his family for the embarrassing moment. Janet Yang, the president of the Academy recently stated that she believes that the punishment that Will Smith received was “inadequate.”
For this year’s show, Jimmy Kimmel is set to host and it will air live on March 12th at 8 pm.
