Legendary hip-hop group The Roots will honor the 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking album Do You Want More?!!!??! with a special residency at New York City’s Blue Note Jazz Club. The group, led by founding members Questlove and Black Thought, will perform six intimate shows over three nights from March 13 to 15.

A Special Celebration of 30 Years for The Roots

Announcing the event on Instagram, Questlove explained the significance of the residency. “It’s where it all began,” he said. The performances will feature music from the early Roots era, but not the album in its entirety. Black Thought added, “We’re going back to 1995, 96… What we will do is have fun with it.”

Fans can expect two shows per night, at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., during the limited engagement. The announcement featured a nostalgic clip from the music video for the track “Proceed,” further emphasizing the celebration of their roots.

This announcement comes as anticipation builds for The Roots’ first album in over a decade. Their last release, …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin in 2014, showcased their ability to blend artistry and innovation. Now, Questlove and Black Thought are inspired by a resurgence of creative energy in hip-hop.

During a recent Questlove Supreme podcast episode, Questlove praised the impact of Common and Pete Rock’s Grammy-nominated The Auditorium Vol. 1. “I believe this particular album will spark a renaissance,” he said. He also revealed that Black Thought has been exceptionally productive, writing seven songs in a single day.

Though Questlove hinted at a significant release date in 2025, the Blue Note residency offers fans a chance to reconnect with The Roots’ earlier work while looking forward to what’s next. “This is a celebration of our journey, and a reminder of where it all began,” Questlove shared.

Tickets for the Blue Note shows are expected to sell quickly, with Questlove urging fans to act fast: “Y’all better riggety rawl & cop them tix cause uh…”
