The Weeknd might be saying goodbye to his music career, at least under his current stage name.

In an interview with W Magazine, the singer shared his plans for his new music. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel, has been heavy in the music industry for over a decade. But now, he feels as though it is time for something new.

“It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” he sahred “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

He shares that he feels it is time to let The Weeknd go and this upcoming album gives him the perfect opportunity. “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd… This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

The Weeknd has previously shared that he was interested in creating another trilogy project, similar to his first in 2012. Back in 2020, he tweeted out I wonder… did you know you’re experiencing a new trilogy.” The trilogy would include 2020’s “After Hours” and last year’s “Dawn FM.”
