Tiffany Haddish says the long-awaited sequel to the hit 2017 film Girls Trip is finally moving forward, with filming expected to begin in spring 2026. She described the development as real, deliberate and full of excitement.
Cast Reunion and Exotic Locale
Haddish, now 45, told Us Weekly that she recently attended a meeting where production leaders revealed, “They were saying we [are] gonna start shooting probably next year.” She added that the aim is to get cameras rolling “before summer starts.”
On the location, Haddish teased nothing ordinary: “I don’t know exactly where we’re going, but I know it’s somewhere exotic … somewhere we don’t normally go, but we should go as much as possible.” Her comments echoed earlier statements from producer Will Packer, who revealed they were considering an “exotic locale” and that he finally has a script in hand.
Haddish’s Enthusiasm for the Project
Haddish expressed warm anticipation for reuniting with her original castmates. “She ready,” she said, referring to her co-stars. Then she smiled, “I think it’s gonna be great. I think it’s going to be so much fun. Me and the girls were all talking. It was so funny, it was so good.”
The first Girls Trip — starring Haddish alongside Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith — was a major success and grossed around $140 million globally. The sequel, long gestating, had been delayed by busy schedules and the pandemic, but now seems to be surging ahead.
Producer Will Packer previously said on Watch What Happens Live that he “can’t reveal” the exotic setting yet, but insisted that the script is finally solid. Meanwhile, co-writer Tracey Oliver had earlier floated Ghana — possibly centering part of the sequel around the Afrochella music festival.
The cast, already familiar with on-screen chemistry, seems more aligned than ever. Haddish’s announcement could mark a turning point in bringing fans back into the riotous sisterhood that made Girls Trip a cultural touchstone.
