“Kevin’s alive,” she said. “He is a living human being.”
Transitioning from the vibrant streets of New Orleans to a global stage, the sequel will reportedly take the quartet to Ghana. Writer Tracy Oliver has teased that the plot will center on the group attending Afrochella, a massive annual music and arts festival in Accra. Also, Packer has promised that the film will maintain the raunchy, heart-filled spirit of the original. But it will elevate the stakes with this “bigger and better” international backdrop.
Released in 2017and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the film grossed over $140 million worldwide against a modest $19 million budget. This success was propelled by the undeniable chemistry between Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and a star-making performance by Tiffany Haddish.
By centering on the “Flossy Posse” and their journey of sisterhood at the Essence Festival, the movie proved that authentic, R-rated female friendships could drive massive commercial engagement. It also paved the way for more diverse representation in the comedy genre.
