Timbaland, the acclaimed producer known for crafting countless hits and timeless anthems throughout his illustrious career, has been revealed as one of the inductees for this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame. The announcement was made on January 17, alongside a stellar lineup of musical luminaries.
The 51-year-old artist will be part of the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame class, joining other distinguished figures such as Steely Dan, R.E.M., Hillary Lindsey, Dean Pitchford, Bill Berry, Peter Buck, and Mike Mills. The Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala, is set to take place on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Further special award honorees are expected to be revealed soon.
Timbaland’s impressive contributions to the music industry were acknowledged by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, citing specific credits from his extensive catalog. Notable works include his production on Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack,” Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On,” Ginuwine’s “Pony,” JAY-Z’s “Big Pimpin’,” and his own 2007 single “The Way I Are.”
Expressing his appreciation for this year’s inductees, Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers emphasized the crucial role of songwriters in the music industry.
“I’ve said it before, but the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first,” Rogers stated. “Without them, there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch… nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.”
Furthermore, Rodgers highlighted the significance of recognizing culturally important songwriters, noting that the 2024 slate represents diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity, and gender. Timbaland joins an exclusive group as the fifth Hip-Hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, following JAY-Z, Jermaine Dupri, and Missy Elliott.
