Trey Songz was arrested earlier this month after prosecutors say he punched a New York City nightclub employee during a dispute over closing time. The 41-year-old performer, whose legal name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Sunday.

Songz was arraigned on third-degree assault charges connected to the Dec. 4 incident at Dramma Night Club in Times Square. Prosecutors allege he struck a club worker in the face after being told the venue was closing in the early morning hours.

According to court filings, the employee informed Songz and his group that it was closing time around 4:25 a.m. “He became needlessly irate,” prosecutors said, and then punched the worker in the face. The complaint states the victim suffered swelling and significant pain.

Additional Charges and Court Order

In addition to the assault charge, Songz faces a second-degree criminal mischief count related to an unrelated incident earlier that same morning. Prosecutors allege he caused roughly $1,500 in damage to property at Mira, a nearby restaurant and hookah lounge.

At his arraignment, Songz appeared wearing a black face mask and did not address reporters about the allegations. Judge issued an order of protection for the nightclub employee and set Songz’s next court date for Feb. 18, 2026. He was released on his own recognizance.

Songz’s attorney released a statement defending the singer and suggesting there was provocation leading up to the incidents. “Public figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain,” the lawyer said. “We are confident the facts will speak for themselves.

The attorney also said Songz is “cooperating fully in both matters” and looks forward to the full context emerging as the case progresses.

This arrest adds to a history of legal troubles for Songz. In previous years, he faced assault allegations and other controversies, including an arrest in 2016 after a concert and more recent investigations for alleged altercations in public settings.

Music industry observers say the case could impact Songz’s public image and business opportunities. Some fans and critics have taken to social media to weigh in on the latest developments, with opinions sharply divided over his conduct and legacy.
