The U.S. State Department announced Tuesday it will issue a limited number of commemorative passports featuring President Donald Trump. The move is intended to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence in July.

The special-edition passports will include Trump’s portrait on an interior page. The image will appear over a stylized version of the Declaration of Independence, along with his signature in gold.

Officials said the passports will retain all existing security features. They will be valid for travel and offered at no additional cost to applicants.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement, “These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure documents in the world.”

Limited Release and Design Details

The commemorative passports are expected to be released in limited quantities. Some reports indicate they may be available primarily through the Washington Passport Agency.

Design elements include artwork of the Founding Fathers and the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence. The back cover may feature an early American flag with “250” incorporated into the stars.

Officials said applicants who do not want the commemorative version can still request a standard passport.

The release marks the first time a living president is expected to be featured in a U.S. passport design.

Part of Broader “America250” Effort

The passport initiative is part of a wider campaign to celebrate the country’s semiquincentennial. Federal agencies have planned several events and commemorative items tied to the milestone.

These efforts include proposed coins, national events, and other symbolic projects tied to the anniversary.

Critics and supporters alike have noted the prominent inclusion of Trump’s likeness in the designs. The administration has increasingly incorporated his image into official materials and commemorations.

The State Department emphasized the passports are meant to highlight the historic significance of the 250th anniversary. Officials described the release as a tribute to the nation’s founding and enduring legacy.

The passports are expected to become available around the July 4 holiday, though final rollout details remain limited.
