TSA is putting an end to a policy that has been in place for nearly 20 years.
It’s been reported that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be ending its shoes-off policy for security. They will allow passengers to keep their shoes on as they go through the general security line at major airports across the country.
The shocking memo was sent to TSA agents across the country last week, stating that the new policy would go into effect on Sunday. Before this new policy, only passengers who had TSA PreCheck were able to keep their shoes on.
TSA is looking for new ways to improve security lines move faster and efficiently, and if a passenger triggers an alarm at the scanners or magnetometers, they will then be required to take their shoes off.
In 2006, TSA began the requirement of having passengers to take their shoes off, which came after Richard Reid tried to blow up an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami. The reported explosives were hidden in his packed shoes. The explosives failed to go off, and Reid was held down by passengers and the flight crew.
