Two Models Were Discovered Dead in Downtown L.A. Apartments 2 Days Apart

Nikki Nichole Maleesa Mooney

Two models have been found dead inside their luxury apartments in downtown Los Angeles within the last week.

On Sept 12, Maleesa Mooney, 31, was found dead by officers were responding to a call for a welfare check. The welfare check was brought about after her family became worried when she wasn’t responding to calls and texts.

“When a week went by, we just knew something was off,” Mooney’s cousin told KTLA. “Her messages weren’t delivering and we knew something was up because we all have a special relationship with Maleesa.”

While Mooney’s manner of death is known, the cause is unknown, pending an autopsy, according to PEOPLE.

Two days earlier, the body of Nichole ‘Nikki’ Coats was discovered a mile away in her apartment.

“I think it was foul play,” Nichole’s mother Sharon Coats told PEOPLE. “The police aren’t doing anything. They want to make it seem like there was no foul play. I just don’t buy it. I just want to rule it out.”

The last time anyone heard from Nikki, she told friends she was going out on a date on Friday, Sept. 8. That was her last conversation with her friends and family.

According to KTLA, when she didn’t answer any calls or texts that weekend, her father and aunt decided to visit her apartment complex, Eighth & Grand on Sept. 10.

It was at the apartment that the father and aunt came accross her body. Her mother said the scene was gruesome and her daughter’s bed was bloodied.

“This is senseless and I want some answers because my daughter is gone,” Sharon Coats, Nikki’s mother, told the outlet. “And it’s not fair. I want everybody to find out who did this to her. She shouldn’t be gone.”

The L.A. County Coroner’s Office said Nikki’s case remains open while her cause of death remains under investigation.

Family and friends of both women are currently seeking justice for their deaths. They’re also concerned a serial killer may be looking for their next target.

“I feel that there’s a predator loose,” Stevens said.

A GoFundMe page was created to help Nikki’s family with funeral expenses.
