Tyler Perry shared a heartfelt post on social media about the Los Angeles wildfires and called out insurance companies for their treatment of their clients.
Taking to Instagram, Perry wrote about some of the devastating events happening in L.A. county.
“Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try and protect her 90-year-old parents’ home because their insurance was canceled was just gut-wrenching to me,” Perry wrote.
“Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years,” he continued. “Then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?”
“People who have paid premiums all of their lives are left with nothing because of pure greed,” he added. “As I am in the process of trying to figure out what steps to take to do all I can to help as many as I can, I am keeping everyone in my prayers.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, State Farm General, the largest home insurance business in California, and other insurers announced “it would not be renewing thousands of home insurance policies in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and other fire-prone areas in 2024.”
Firefighters are continually fighting multiple large wildfires in the Los Angeles area, which began due to dry conditions and powerful winds. The wildfires have burned nearly “10,000 homes, building structures, and more, leaving at least 10 people dead.” Many people were forced to evacuate from their homes and were left with nothing.
Chief Anthony Marrone of the Los Angeles County Fire Department stated that the winds are “placing all residents of Los Angeles County in danger.”
“As the fires pop up, nobody knows where the next one will be,” Police Chief Jim McDonnell added.
Since the fires began to spread, more than 1,000 personnel have been deployed, throughout the area.
