Tyler Perry keeps the camera rolling even when he’s injured.
While filming Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, Perry said he broke his collarbone while bike riding. The injury took place“two weeks before we started to film.”
“I was talking to everyone, directing and getting the cast to dance,” Perry told PEOPLE. “But my shoulder was in a lot of pain, and I kept telling them to watch my shoulder.”
“Their group chat ended up being titled ‘watch my shoulder,” he continued.
The third installment of the franchise stars Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, and Sharon Leal. Also, Taraji P. Henson makes her debut in the franchise. She “will tell you their favorite experience is me walking around saying ‘watch my shoulder’ in every scene,” Perry explained.
Why Did I Get Married Again?, also stars Lamman Rucker, Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.
“Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them,” the synopsis Netflix says. “They must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”
Henson expressed her excitement about making her debut in the film.
“Who doesn’t love a destination wedding that brings together old and new friends?” You can expect everything you loved in the first film and more,” Henson said.
Why I Did I Get Married is one of Perry’s most successful franchises. The original film, in 2007, debuted at number one. It grossed over $55 million domestically against a modest $15 million budget.
The 2010 sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?, which brought in another $60 million domestically. It also topped the home video charts with over a million units sold in its first week.
