Multi-hyphenate Tyler Perry will pay of the mortgage of an 85 year-old East Nashville woman. Anniece Tisdale and her family were out thousands of dollars, left homeless, after dealing with an unlicensed contractor in December 2024.
In a February 26 appearance on the Sherri daytime talk show, Tisdale explained that she was determined to renovate her dream home for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Tyler Perry is going to pay off your mortgage,” Sherri Shepherd told Tisdale and her daughter during their episode. Both women were overwhelmed with joy after Shepherd told them Perry heard about the family’s situation and that the actor wanted to “take that financial burden off” of the elderly woman.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Anniece said. “From you coming to interview me, they saw it on the news. They went through news clips and picked it out.”
Not only is the gift from actor, director, and producer a huge financial relief for the family but Anniece said that it feels personal.
One of Anniece’s other daughters took her to see a Tyler Perry play at TPAC more than a decade ago. It was the last thing they did together before her daughter had a heart attack.
“She died that same night,” Anniece said. “It was a coincidence that she was watching over me with Tyler and helped him bless me with this.”
A picture of their family now hangs on the wall of Anniece’s nearly-finished home. The latest addition is a screened-in patio that Yolanda surprised her with Tuesday.
“You deserve everything,” Yolanda told Anniece.
“It looks like a brand-new home,” Anniece said. “It is just something I am going to enjoy for the rest of my life.”
In true Nashville fashion, Anniece wants to pay it forward by giving what would have been her next mortgage payment to Habitat For Humanity.
