Musician Van Hunt recently revealed that his marriage proposal to longtime partner Halle Berry remains unanswered. During a joint appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, Hunt shared, “So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold, as you can see. It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”
Berry, 58, explained her hesitation stems from her previous marriages. She was married to David Justice (1993–1997), Eric Benét (2001–2005), and Olivier Martinez (2013–2016). Berry shares two children from past relationships: daughter Nahla, 17, with Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo, 11, with Martinez.
“We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” Berry stated. However, she acknowledged, “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she said.
“And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
A Relationship Built on Deep Connection
Berry and Hunt began dating in 2020 after meeting through Hunt’s brother, who worked for Berry’s wellness company. Their bond developed through conversations during the COVID-19 pandemic before they met in person. Berry described their connection as deeply emotional, stating it was the first time she fell in love before becoming physically intimate.
The couple has openly shared their affection on social media, including a playful New Year’s Day post in 2022 that led fans to believe they had married. Berry later clarified it was a joke, saying, “We were just having some New Year’s Day fun!”
Despite the proposal being “on hold,” Berry hinted that Hunt might receive an answer soon. She emphasized that their decision to marry would be based on mutual desire rather than societal expectations.
