Vanessa Bryant just scored a major win in her lawsuit against Los Angeles County.
On Wednesday, a judge ruled in Bryant’s favor stating that County Sheriff Alex Villanueva and Fire Chief Daryl Osby must answer questions under oath pertaining to the photos taken at the site of the helicopter crash that killed her husband, Kobe Bryant, and their daughter Gianna in January 2020.
It has been reported that Bryant is currently suing Los Angeles County for invasion of privacy and negligence due to the photographs of human remains from the crash site being improperly shared by the sheriff’s and fire department employees.
The county has however argued with this lawsuit but will comply with the judge’s ruling. Attorney Skip Miller said in a statement representing the county, “While we disagree with the court’s decision, we will make both the Sheriff and Fire Chief available for the deposition.”
He added, “Their testimony will not change the fact that there is no evidence any photos taken by County first responders have ever been publicly disseminated.”
On Oct 12th, Bryant revealed in her deposition that she found out about the death of her husband and daughter via social media.
“I was holding onto my phone because obviously, I was trying to call my husband back, and all these notifications started popping up on my phone, saying ‘RIP Kobe, RIP Kobe.”
This case will go to trial in February 2022. Vanessa Bryant is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
