Vanessa Williams is making a triumphant return to her music roots after 15 years. The 61-year-old icon is set to release her new single, “Legs (Keep Dancing),” from her upcoming album, marking her first non-seasonal album in 15 years. The LP will be distributed under her own record label, Mellian Music, in a joint venture with Mod Squad, LLC, GoDigiPath, LLC, and ADA Worldwide.
“What a joy it is to be making new music behind the [mic] again with old friends,” said Williams in a statement. “There’s a certain comfort in creating new works in the studio while reminiscing about how so many years in this business have brought successes, excitement, and lasting memories. Always moving forward is what drives me.”
The new album, executive produced by Mellian Music, Mod Squad, LLC, and Christopher Todd Hall, will showcase Williams’ vocal talents across various genres, including pop, R&B, Latin, jazz, and dance. Mod Squad CEO, Tony Prendatt, described it as an album that “surrounds Vanessa’s vocal gifts and performances with stellar acoustic and electronic performances by real musicians, real writers, real producers.”
The first single, “Legs (Keep Dancing),” is scheduled for release on April 26, with the full album expected later this year. Williams has also produced a music video for the single, which will premiere on her official YouTube channel.
Vanessa Williams Shows Her Multi-Prowess
“A true multi-hyphenate and savvy businesswoman, there’s not much Vanessa can’t do,” added Cat Kreidich, President, ADA Worldwide. “We’re looking forward to supporting this exciting next chapter of her career, connecting her with fans who are eagerly awaiting her return to music, and introducing a whole new generation to the magic that is Vanessa Williams.”
Aside from her music endeavors, Williams is currently preparing to star as Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada. Preview performances are set to begin this summer, with the official opening night scheduled for October 24. Williams is also part of the producer team for A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, making its Broadway debut this fall.
“You can call it a comeback, a full circle moment, or just plain serendipity,” said songwriter Kipper Jones. “But I call it a blessing to be creating more history with the iconic force of nature that is Vanessa Williams. If past is indeed prologue, we’re about to give ‘em hell again!”
Vanessa Williams’ impact on music, television, and stage over the past four decades is undeniable. With her return to music, she continues to captivate audiences and solidify her status as a true entertainment icon.
