Viola Davis opened up about judging Chadwick Boseman while filming Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
In a recent interview, the actress talked about working with Boseman on the film and stated that none of the cast was aware that he had colon cancer. She said that she wondered why his girlfriend and makeup artist kept giving him special attention by rubbing his back and playing meditative music.
“There was a part of me that was a little judgmental- why do you need all that?” Davis said. “Little did I know that they were doing it because he was dying.” Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020 after his battle with colon cancer.
During this career, he won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and was nominated for an Oscar. On the fourth anniversary of his untimely passing, Lupita Nyong’o posted some photos of them and by himself with the caption that read, “Grief never ends. But it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It’s the price of love.”
She added, “Remembering Chadwick Boseman. Forever.”
