Wanda Sykes is speaking out on Will Smith’s “Oscar slap” earlier this week.
The actress/comedian appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and spoke on the aftermath following the show. Wanda hosted with Regina Hall and Amy Schumer. Wanda says Chris approached her at an after-party and apologized for the altercation when it was over. Wanda asked why he was sorry, and she explained,
“I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this, but I saw Chris at (entertainment manager) Guy (Oseary’s) party, and as soon as I walked up to him, the first thing he said was, ‘I’m so sorry.’’ She continued,
“And I’m like, ‘Why are you apologizing?’ He’s like, ‘It was supposed to be your night. You and Amy and Regina, you all were doing such a great job. I’m so sorry. This is now going to be about this.’ Because that’s who Chris is.”
The Jasmine Brand points out Wanda didn’t agree with the Oscars allowing Will to stay for the rest of the show after the altercation. She said,
“For them, to let him stay in that room and enjoy the rest of the show and accept his award, I was like, ‘How gross is this? This is just the wrong message. You know, you assault somebody, you get escorted out the building and that’s it. But for them to let him continue, I thought it was gross.”
