Here’s Everything That Went Down at A Great Day in Harlem 2018
WBLS and the Harlem Chamber of Commerce took over General Grant Nation Memorial, best known to most as Grant’s Tomb, yesterday afternoon (July 29), and it was one of the biggest turnouts we’ve ever seen.
The day-long event kicked off with some of your favorite radio personalities like Déjà Vu, Liz Black, Jeff Foxx, and LaDawn Black rocking the airwaves during our live broadcast alongside our sister station, 1190 WLIB. The on-air crew with the World’s Best Looking Sound played games and interacted with listeners as NYC residents from all five boroughs came out for good music, good food, and a genuine good time.
Community organizations and programs brought their respective dancers, singers, models, and more to the the stage at 122nd St and Riverside Dr.
As the day went on, the crowd grew, eventually panning across several blocks in every direction. And by 3 p.m., everybody was getting down.
Artists across the board stopped by including the legendary Peabo Bryson, who’s getting ready to release his latest album, Stand for Love, which hits all digital platforms Aug. 3.
Even the kids got down.
But just because A Great Day in Harlem is over doesn’t mean the community celebration has come to and end.
The festivities continue Saturday, Aug. 18 at Summer in the City. We’ll have a children’s festival, education fair, fashion show, and a concert featuring Raheem DeVaughn, Bishop Marvin Sapp, and the Jeff Foxx Band. Plus, we’ll have an international vendor’s village complete with music, art, clothing, jewelry, and of course, food!
It’s all going down at 135th St and St. Nicholas Ave. If you missed the kick off, don’t miss out again!
