There’s a new update surrounding the fraud trial involving Real Housewives of Potomac stars Wendy Osefo and Eddie Osefo.
On Wednesday (March 4), the couple appeared for a pretrial hearing where Eddie reportedly waived his right to a speedy trial. If he proceeded with that option, it have required the trial to take place within 180 days of his indictment, under Maryland law.
Wendy, however, did not waive her right to a speedy trial indicating that she is ready to move this process along. Both the defense and prosecution were considering trial dates as early as this month. However, based on the available dates, it’s expected to take place sometime in May, per RealityTea.
According to a podcast host, Taria Shondell Faison, who was reportedly present in the courtroom, that the couple will now be tried separately.
Wendy initally filed paperwork asking to be tried separately from her husband. A few weeks later, their lawyers circled back and asked for them to be tried together. A judge granted the request, and they were to move forward as co-defendants.
But now, they are back at where they started, with each trial expected to last roughly four days, plus one day for the defense.
Both Wendy and Eddie, 41, are facing a total of 33 criminal counts, including insurance fraud, conspiracy, and providing false information to law enforcement.
The charges are related to an April 2024 incident in which the couple reported a burglary, telling police their bedroom was ransacked and several designer bags and jewelry worth $450,000 had been stolen.
However according to court records, the items reported stolen were returned “where a full refund was provided prior to the alleged burglary.”
After being released on a $50,000 bond, the couple continues to maintain their innocence.
Known on the show as “Dr. Wendy,” Wendy joined RHOP in 2020. She and Eddie have three children together.
