26-year-old veteran Kim Potter who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright has resigned “in the best interest of the community.”
Police Chief Tim Gannon also resign later on as well.
“I have loved every minute of being a police officer and serving this community to the best of my ability, but I believe it is in the best interest of the community, the department, and my fellow officers if I resign immediately.”
During the press conference, authorities played the recording of the incident and Gannon stated:
“Potter intended to fire her Taser but instead made an “accidental discharge” from her gun.”
Until her resignation, Potter was placed on administrative leave within the department.
