Whoopi Goldberg Issues An Apology Over Her Holocaust Comments “I Stand Corrected”

Whoopi Goldberg is apologizing for her comments about the holocaust.

During Monday’s episode of The View, Goldberg caused an uproar after saying that the Holocaust isn’t about race. The comment came after the hosts of the daytime talk show were speaking on the Tennesee school district’s decision to ban Art Spiegelman’s Pulitzer Prize award-winning graphic novel Maus from its eighth-grade reading curriculum.

They cited that the novel, which is about the Holocaust, has been banned due to inappropriate language and nudity. “Let’s be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race,” Goldberg said. “It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

The actress met with pushback by co-host Ana Navarro who said, “But it’s about white supremacists going after Jews.” Goldberg responded, “But these are two white groups of people. The minute you turn into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other.”

Social media was quick to call out the EGOT winner about her comments. Jonathan Greenblatt the Ceo of the Anti-Defamation League tweeted, “No @WhoopiGoldberg, the #Holocausr was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people- who they deemed to be an inferior race. They dehumanizes them and used this racist propaganda to justify slaughtering 6 million Jews. Holocaust distortion is dangerous. #ENOUGH.”

Whoopi Goldberg would go on to issue a public apology after her comments.

“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust “is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.” I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, “The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people who they deemed to be an inferior race.” I stand corrected. The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused. Written with my sincerest apologies, Whoopi Goldberg.”
