Whoopi is taking a temporary leave of absence from The View.
The EGOT winner will be away filming her upcoming Barack Obama-produced Netflix movie Women Like Us. It also stars Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams, and Jennifer Lewis.
Brian Teta, producer of The View, spoke with Goldberg about a hiatus on the talk show’s Behind the Table podcast. “
“We’re going to lose you for a couple of days,” Teta said. “You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks, but you’ll be here on Monday.”
Teta announced that former co-hosts Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenopoulos will guest-host Tuesday through Thursday over the next two weeks, with Joy Behar moderating in Goldberg’s absence.
Goldberg shared additional details about the Michelle Obama–produced film that is keeping her away from The View.
“It’s five really wonderful women — several of whom I’ve worked with before,” the 70-year-old told Teta. “It’s about change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you. It’s about finding your people. I’m excited to do it. It’ll be fun.”
“I’m determined to do it because there are those who didn’t think I would. And I do most of the things that I do because I know people are not waiting for me to fail,” Goldberg continued. But they’re waiting for me to bail.”
Goldberg also spoke about the preparation required for the film.
“It’s not really my favorite thing. I like the water, but I don’t love the water. I like being by the water; I don’t like being in the water. It takes a long time for me to dry.”
Since joining The View in 2007, Goldberg has served as the anchor and moderator of ABC’s iconic daytime talk show. Goldberg quickly became the steady force at the “Hot Topics” table, pop culture, and social issues.
As the longest-serving moderator in the show’s history—surpassing even series creator Barbara Walters—Goldberg has been instrumental in solidifying The View‘s status as an essential stop for political candidates, cultural icons, and major newsmakers.
