Two of Hollywood’s biggest icons are joining forces with Netflix to bring Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to life – hip-hop style.
Will smith and Queen Latifah are giving Netflix subscribers a new a take on a classic tale from a contemporary point of view, which focuses on “a young waitress from Brooklyn and an aspiring musician from a wealthy family, whose unconventional romance forces them to confront their life choices,” reports Shadow and Act.
While the musical was penned by Solvan “Slick” Naim, who’s directed Netflix The Get Down and John Singleton’s TV series, Snowfall, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith’s brother, Caleeb Pinkett, and James Lassiter will executive produce the project. Queen Latifah will produce the contemporary Shakespeare remake alongside Shakim Compere, who’s known for his work on Steel Magnolias, Just Wright, and Single Ladies).
