Will Smith takes a stroll down memory lane as he celebrates the 33rd anniversary of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
The show premiered on September 10, 1990, on NBC, and would later become a staple in the world of pop culture and entertainment. On his Instagram, Smith took a picture of himself standing in front of the now-iconic Brentwood home with the caption that read “Moved in 33 years ago today.”
Fans immediately began reminiscing with the actor in his comment section. “Wow. Memories of my childhood thx u Will and the whole cast of The Fresh Prince. Can’t believe it’s been that long. Still watch and laugh at episodes like they’re new. That is credited to how great you all are. Thx u,” one fan wrote.
Actress Daphne Reid also commented and said, “Sorry I didn’t move in with you then! Thank you for having me as your step-aunt.” Reid played the second Aunt Viv in the fourth season and remained until the show ended in 1996.
The show had many guests such as Tyra Banks, Nia Long, Don Cheadle, BBD, Jada Pinkett Smith, and more. In 2022, the iconic show was rebooted as a drama called “Bel-Air” which follows the same sentiment of Will, played by actor Jabari Banks, who moves from Philadelphia to live with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air.
In a previous interview, Banks spoke about the reboot and said, “I say it like this: If you took all of the characters from the ‘90s but you dove into all of their diaries and all of their journals and what they were feeling internally, that’s what our show is.”
He continued, “So that’s going to be super exciting for old fans and new fans to watch, and you’re going to see a lot of callbacks to the original, a lot of tidbits, and a lot of Easter eggs, so that’s going to be exciting as well.”
The third season of “Bel-Air” has been delayed until 2024 due to the ongoing writers and actors strike. The first two seasons are currently playing on Peacock. What is your favorite “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” episode?
