Are you interested in seeing Will Smith’s new movie?

The actor is releasing a slavery film called, Emancipation, set to premiere in December in select theaters and on Apple TV +. During an interview with Fox, Will discussed the film and the Oscars slap.

Will understands some people may not be “ready” to support him after he slapped Chris Rock across the face in March. Will said:

“I completely understand that. If someone is not ready [to support me again], I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready.”

Will also hopes his team that worked on the film doesn’t have to suffer because of his actions. He continued, “My deepest concern is my team. Antoine [Fuqua] has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career.” The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor went on to say:

“The people on this team [behind Emancipation] have done some of the best work of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. So, at this point, that’s what I’m working for, that’s what I’m hoping for. I’m hoping that the material, the power of the film, the timeliness of the story–you know–I’m hoping that the good that can be done would open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film.”

Earlier this year at the Oscars, Will slapped Chris after Chris made a joke that he was looking forward to a sequel to “G.I. Jane,” which was ultimately a jab at Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head. Jada has alopecia and didn’t take to the joke. When Will sat back down, he shouted to Chris, “keep my wife’s name out of your f*** mouth.”

As a result of the slap, Will is banned from the Oscars for ten years. He’s still able to get nominated. However, he can’t attend any events. Will responded, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.” Since the slap, Chris has made jokes about it a various comedy shows. His recent statement, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.” Will also apologized to Chris in a visual; Chris responded and said, “f*ck your hostage video.”

Emancipation, starring Will, is based on a true story of an enslaved man who risks his life for his family and freedom. It’ll be out on December 9. Check out the trailer:
