Black women are making history!
In Harris county, nineteen black women who ran for different judicial seats won their races Tuesday night, making this a historical night for black women in Texas and of course the country!
Although Beto O’Rourke loss to republican incumbent Ted Cruz, this was the largest number of Black women appearing in the state’s ballot. Folks from all over rejoiced and celebrated the ladies now known as the #Houston19. And many were overwhelmed with joy to see diversity in these judicial seats.
In September, LasShawn A. Williams one of the 19 victors shared the photo above with all the candidates sharing how excited she was to be part of this experience.
“I’ve waited for the reveal of this photo of 19 judicial candidates for several weeks – 19 Black women running for judge in Harris County, Houston, TX. This entire time I’ve thought of what I’d say the day we were able to share this moment in history with everyone. But really I’m humbled.”
This proves the power we have in numbers.
