Mary J. Blige is getting ready to start a new business venture. The award-winning singer will be the executive producer on a new series called Philly Reign. The series was inspired by South Philly native, Thelma Wright, a former drug Queenpin.
As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Wright was a part of the nation’s largest heroin and cocaine trafficking organizations during the 1980s and 1990s. Wright became a part of the “family business” after her husband, Howard ‘Jackie’ Wright, was killed and found dead in a house in August of 1986.
Wright wrote in her 2011book With Eyes from Both Sides: Living My Life In and Out of the Game, about her time in the illegal drug business and what made her get out of it. After getting out of ‘the game’, Wright founded the “Thelma Wright Foundation” which benefits at-risk women and girls.
The series is slated to air on the USA Network and will also be co-produced by Wright and her son Jacky. There is no exact date for when this series will be released.
