Gospel singer Yolanda Adams is now an AKA. She was recently inducted into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority along with author Margo Lee Shetterly, activist Chantel Harris, diplomat Teta V. Banks and astronaut Jeanette J. Epps as honorary members at the sorority’s biennial conference in Houston.
Adams shared the exciting news on Instagram.
“Hey Family! This was the Secret I can finally tell/ So Ecstatic to be officially @akasorotiy1908 #boule68 #pink&green. And to have Family be there is AWESOME!! Love Y’all.”
International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson released this statement:
“Each of this year’s inductees have demonstrated remarkable strength and perseverance to achieve her goals and have a positive impact on the world,” she said.” Most importantly, these women have done so with a commitment to serving others, a hallmark of Alpha Kappa Alpha.”
Previous honorary membership inductees include Jada Pinkett-Smith, Maya Angelou, Ntozake Shange, Alice Walker, Iyanla Vanzant, Ella Fitzgerald, Alicia Keys, Gladys Knight, Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, C. Delores Tucker, Suzanne de Passe, Mae Jemison, Eleanor Roosevelt, Zina Garrison and C. Vivian Stringer.
