It’s been two months since we lost the legend, Earl Simmons, aka DMX.
As the world continues to mourn, his family is still trying to sort out his estate and finances.
As reported on The Jasmine Brand, X’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, filed court documents to be declared DMX’s common-law wife, but a judge denied it. It’s not clear why. The couple got engaged in 2019 and share a five-year-old son.
It’s up for question who will have control over X’s estate. If Desiree were granted being named his common-law wife, she would have immediately acquired primary custody of the X’s estate, including future music earnings, TJB notes. However, since DMX didn’t leave a will, the family is trying to figure out who will be named administrator of the estate.
Page Six reported a source close to the situation said, “There is no will from DMX, and that’s a big problem. This is a difficult situation because [several people] are vying to be named administrators. His fiancée Desiree tried to muscle in by asking the court to be named his common-law wife, which means she would have taken precedence over his children. But the court refused.”
X’s older children are trying to figure out how much their dad’s estate is worth. His daughters Sasha Simmons and Jada Oden filed documents on May 10. According to their findings, they say DMX’s estate is worth less than $50,000. His sons Xavier, Tacoma, and Sean Simmons filed documents on May 21 and said it was worth less than $1 million.
