Ava DuVernay is currently partnering with Netflix to produce a documentary on the late musical icon Prince. According to sources, the ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ director received permission by the singer’s estate. Monday night, DuVernay tweeted:
“Prince was a genius, a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other. He shattered preconceived notions, smashed boundaries, and shared his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love and great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful.”
The documentary will highlight Prince’s entire life and career. This is not the first documentary for DuVernay. She’s also directed 13th for Netflix, which focuses on the “intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States.”
No release date has been set.
