Diddy is paying a large lump sum of money a day to singer Sting for sampling “I’ll Be Missing You,” without permission.

After using the sample from the 1983 single “Every Breath You Take”, Diddy revealed that he pays $5,000 a day in royalties to Sting. In a resurfaced interview clip from 2018, Sting stated that the Bad Boy mogul pays $2,000 a day.

Diddy retweeted the post and said “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @officialSting.” In 1997, “I’ll Be Missing You” was a tribute song to The Notorious B.I.G. following his untimely death at the age of 24.

The song featured B.I.G’s then-wife Faith Evans and R&B group 112. The song would go on to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Diddy won top rap artist and top rap song at the 1997 Billboard Music Awards.
