Sean “Diddy” Combs received his first Grammy nomination as a lead artist. The mogul’s The Love Album: Off The Grid received a nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Released independently through his own label, Love Records, the album is Diddy’s first solo project since 2006’s “Press Play.” The album is loaded with features from across the R&B spectrum, including Jazmine Sullivan, Coco Jones, Justin Bieber and R&B veterans.
This nomination marks Diddy’s first consideration for a Grammy in eight years, following his 2016 nod for “All Day,” a Kanye West song that credits him as one of many producers.
“Music is my first love and music has given me a second chance at life, so stepping back into the studio to make this album has been a soulful experience that brought me closer to myself and my purpose,” said Diddy in a press release. ”This album wasn’t created to feed an algorithm or be relevant with the trends of the times, it was created to touch souls and freely express my story with the best artists, writers and producers shaping the future of R&B.”
Diddy currently has three Grammy wins for his No Way Out rap album, “I’ll Be Missing You,” and 2004’s “Shake Ya Tailfeather” along with 17 nominations.
