Feed Me!

I heard a pastor talk about his encounter with a new convert to Jesus Christ, a “babe in the Lord.”  The young man had only been saved four days.  The pastor directed him to read 1Peter 2:2 which states, :As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”  He was trying to explain the verse to the young man who just kept staring down in the Bible.  He kept reading that verse over and over.  “So that’s me?”, he finally asked the pastor.  “Yes.” , replied the pastor. “And this bible is my food?”, he questioned.  “Yes.”, said the pastor. (That’s what he had been trying to tell him.)  “Cool!”, replied the babe in Christ.

He understood!  And what about you, perhaps seasoned, older Christian?  Are you still aware that the Word of God is your necessary spiritual food?  Are you still excited about it?  Are you nourishing your spiritual man faithfully, or is he under nourished, thin or maybe even anorexic?

Most of us do not forget to partake of those three meals a day.  We make sure we feed our natural, fleshly man, but what about those three meals for your spiritual man?  You could maybe “eat” some Psalms or Proverbs for breakfast; a slice of the gospels for lunch, and a large helping of Romans of Hebrews for dinner.  We must feed our spiritual man daily, not just during Sunday or Wednesday evening service.

When the spiritual man is well fed and strong, he will be able to “stand in the evil day” – that day of temptation.  You will not so easily get angry or upset and say or do things you will later regret.  The Holy Spirit within you will be in charge of your actions and emotions, and he will enable you to “stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)  You will become “strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” (Ephesians 6:10)

Being well fed spiritually will enable you to, “Take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

So feed your spiritual man daily, and continue to grow in the Lord.  That way you will not bring shame or reproach on your Lord; others will then see your light and good works and glorify the Saviour in you.

     Scriptures:  1Peter 2:2, Ephesians 6: 10-13

Prayer:  Lord, help me to read and study your word daily.

     Thought:  Feed your spiritual man.

Application:  Eat! –  spiritually and daily.
