Melvin Ragin, also known as Wah Wah Watson, has passed away at the age of 67 years old.

At the age of 20, Watson joined the Motown House Band known as the Funk Brothers in 1968 and later went on to play for other Motown artists.

Watson played on The Temptations hit song, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On, Rose Royce’s album Car Wash, Michael Jackson’s album Off The Wall and many other classics.

The news of Watson’s death came from his wife, Itsuko Aono, in a statement, she released earlier. “It’s with a heavy heart that we regret to announce the passing of my loving husband Wah Wah Watson today at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica,” she continued, “He will be greatly missed, but music is eternal. Wherever he is, he’s groovin’.” Watson’s cause of death has not been revealed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
