The 46-year-old actress has waited long enough to be a mom and when she finally was given the opportunity to do so, she wouldn’t of have wanted it any other way.

In the March issue of Women’s Health, Union opens up on having a daughter with husband Dwayne Wade via a surrogate.

“Now I’m in the right mindset and mental space, and I’m open to being the best mom I can be.”

It was a long time coming for Gabrielle as she has suffered nine miscarriages, three years of unsuccessful IVF treatments and eventually made the final decision to have a surrogate for the birth of her baby.

“People want to see the bump, hear that you got hemorrhoids; they want to know you’re like them,” she says. “I was like, ‘this is going to seem like the most Hollywood sh*t ever. Will I be embraced as a mom?’ It’s terrifying.”

Having people and critics especially in the social media age that we live in dictate the way you run your life can be hard, but seeing the “Bring it on” star do what was best for her and her spouse shows that family should be the only thing that can dictate your life.  The bottom line, as Union said, is that using a surrogate is not a failure and brought her a beautiful bundle of joy.
